Your first expedition

Your first expedition

Your first goal is a funded Odyssey Heavy, a complete launch site and a return trip with Lune’s first upgrade materials. The entire bootstrap uses home-world resources.

Gather and process

Enter /astral-frontier to create or load the persistent Orbis frontier. It grants no equipment. Gather stock iron, copper and processing fuel normally. Nickel and oil shale occur in new natural rock roughly 5–22 blocks below the local surface.

Craft the stock Workbench, then the Astral Assembly Bench from 6 iron bars and 4 copper bars. Build its four processors. Smelt nickel, press plates and coils, refine oil shale and condition propellant cells. Keep outputs clear and feed each processor gathered fuel.

Including the bench, processors, Odyssey, complete launch platform, console and nine initial full cells requires 302 iron bars, 75 copper bars, 94 raw nickel and 18 oil shale, with one spare empty casing. Add the Suit Workbench, complete suit, oxygen equipment, tools and processor fuel; those supplies are additional. See recipes for the exact parts.

Raise a rocket

Build the 25×25 launch platform at a low, open site. Place its separate edge console, select Odyssey and inspect the full-size cyan ghost. Supply 6 hull sections, 4 engine parts, 1 flight computer and 16 frame plates through Supply needed parts.

You may supply the plan in stages. When the pad and launch column are ready, the fully supplied rocket builds in 10 seconds. Completion fireworks celebrate the finished ship once. Its tank starts empty.

Fund the voyage

Choose Open flight control at the console. Use Load trip fuel to deposit nine full cells for 9,000 units, keeping the returned casings. Departure costs 6,000 and protects 3,000 for the homeward journey.

Craft a complete Survey suit or better at the Suit Workbench and carry at least four minutes of charged portable oxygen. Check both equipment and fuel readiness in Flight Control before departure.

Choose Launch to orbit in Flight Control. Preflight checks the arrival before charging fuel. The third-person sequence climbs toward space; Kestrel’s booster return is shown before orbital navigation. The large red ABORT LAUNCH control cancels an active departure and restores its reserved fuel.

In orbit, click Lune in the Destinations chart or route list and use its travel action. Press Esc to hide navigation; /astral-map reopens it while in orbit. The upper stage descends to Lune and remains at the landing site. Passenger movement and camera presentation are still being refined.

Bring the next voyage home

Mine titanium and aluminium under Lune’s regolith, roughly 5–14 blocks deep. Return to the control beside your landed upper stage to begin the prepaid ascent and home approach. /astral-return uses the same existing journey and reserve; stay near the landing control on Lune. The completed return spends the protected 3,000 units once and brings your gathered inventory home.

Smelt 12 titanium + 8 aluminium into ingots, then press one Thermal Shield. That shield is part of the Kestrel Stack construction cost. Both current rockets serve the Lune route; later planet landings remain in development. Returned stages receive construction credit; supply the missing parts at the launch console before the next flight.

Read Lune and progression before leaving home, and keep a complete backup while trying a development build.
